Guilt

When someone does something that they regret, or something in their life effects others around them negatively they often feel guilty. In the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie's grandpa feels guilty. Grandpa knows that Charlie has an extremely tough life living in such a cramped house having to do so many chores and work. They barely have enough money for food. Charlie's grandfather feels very guilty and on Charlie's birthday he sacrificed some of his own money so Charlie could go out and buy a chocolate bar for his birthday.

Although I have never committed a serious crime,I have done things that made me feel guilty. When I was five years old I stole fake nails from Toys R Us. I went to play at a friends house and after I was still feeling very bad about steeling, for I knew it was wrong. I showed my mom when she picked me up. She took me to the store and made me apologize; I also had to give the nails back. Afterwards, i felt much better and knew i had told the truth.

In the play Macbeth, guilt plays a big role in the plot. Macbeth feels extreme guilt for the murders he has committed and often sees ghosts. Lady Macbeth does not feel guilty consciously; however, when she is sleeping it comes to her. Lady Macbeth begins to sleepwalk, and one night she reveals the murders to a doctor. She has suppressed the guilt so much that her only way of letting it out is in her sleep.
