Feminism

In today’s society women are not treated with the same respect as men are, and many women feel very strongly about their rights. They beg the question, why should a woman be treated differently than a man? The answer to that is, they shouldn’t. These women who stand up for their rights as a human being are feminists. Feminists stand up for things such as abortion, equal pay, rape, domestic violence, and many other things. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant involuntarily then she should have the right to an abortion. Some people, mostly men, do not understand that and are trying to ban abortions nation wide. This is less common now a day; however, often in the past and sometimes now women are paid much less than a man to do the same exact job. Another main aspect of feminism is domestic violence. Most cases of domestic violence are the husband beating the woman and not the woman beating the husband. Feminists are fighting to have places to go in cases of this.
I would not consider Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Brittany Spears, or Nicole Richie appropriate role models for young girls. They all get wasted every night, have inappropriate picture or videos out, and go to rehab weekly. They are everything feminism is against. They do not show woman being strong or respectable. Although these are all very bad role models for young children, there are also many good ones. A perfect example of a good role model is Hilary Clinton. She is an important political figure who broke the barrier and ran for first woman president. A good role model for young girls should be strong, respectable, sober, friendly, and stand up for what they believe in.
Although Lady Macbeth used her strength for evil, her characteristics as a woman are positive. She is extremely persuasive, persistent, and stands up for what she believes in. Lady Macbeth was able to convince her husband to kill the King. Although I would not want my child to look up to her as a role model for that reason I would want them to realize that her traits are necessary for a woman to succeed in life. Lady Macbeth’s actions are not positive; however, her characteristics are. Lady Macbeth is succeeding in a way that many feminists now a day would like to see other woman succeed.
